The leader of the infamous Toypack surveys his troups...

I am a freelance animal writer, writing for both dog and
cat publications.  My specialties are dog training, both
dog and cat rescue, French Bulldogs and Pugs,
interviews, and - of course - fiction!

1/86-12/89  REGIONAL PUBLICATIONS
I published a series of articles on basic dog training in the
Yankee Pug Dog Club regional newsletter, which subsequently led to an
invitation to conduct several training seminars for the club.

I published a series of articles profiling rescued dogs in the
Pug Rescue of New England regional newsletter.

I published a feature article on canine assistance dogs in the
Doberman Rescue Unlimited regional newsletter.

12/90 AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB GAZETTE
My short story, "The Visitor," received Honorable Mention in the
1990 AKC Gazette's annual writing competition.

1/90-2/00 PUG TALK
I was recruited by Pug Talk, the national breed bimonthly magazine,
and published two regular columns and multiple feature articles over the
course of ten years.  During the time that I wrote for this magazine, it was
twice named as best single breed magazine by the
Dog Writers Association of America.

"Ringside", my obedience column, was featured from 1/90 to 1/00.
My 6/96 column, on the death of a favorite dog, was nominated for best
article in a single breed magazine for 1996 by the
Dog Writers Association of America.

"Junior Pugger Profiles", featuring junior handlers in the sport of purebred dogs,
was featured from 7/90 to 4/93.  In it, I interviewed children, ages 7 to 18,
concerning their involvement with and interest in dogs.
I also wrote multiple feature articles, including "Otis Lends an Ear",
a profile of the first Pug ever trained as a Hearing Ear dog, at NEADS
(New England Assistance Dogs Services) and
"I've Got Them Leg-Lifting Pug Dog Blues!", an article on housebreaking
that was nominated for best article in a single breed magazine for
1994 by the Dog Writers Association of America.

4/97-12/00 DOG & KENNEL
I was recruited by Dog and Kennel, an allbreed national bimonthly magazine,
and published a number of feature articles  and a regular column over the
course of three and a half years.

"On Command", my basic training column, was featured from 12/97 to 12/00.
This column, with its combination of positive, humane training methods and humor,
was nominated for and won the award for best regular column in an allbreed
magazine for 1998 by the Dog Writers Association of America.

3/98-11/00 CATS & KITTENS
I wrote several feature articles for Cats & Kittens, a national bimonthly magazine
before being invited to develop and write a new regular column "Friends of Cats",
featured from 3/99 to 11/00, profiling notable cat rescuers from across the country,
from the co-chair of the animal welfare committee of the CFA to a woman
who used the proceeds of her bus driving job to rescue cats.

6/98-6/01 FRENCH BULLYTIN
I was recruited by the French Bullytin, a national breed quarterly magazine,
and wrote a regular column, featuring all aspects of companion dog activities,
from 6/98 to 6/01, as well as several feature articles.  During the time
that I wrote for this magazine, it was twice named as best single breed
magazine by the Dog Writers Association of America.

3/01-9/01 THE FRENCHIE FORUM, FBDCA
While serving as the French Bulldog Club of America's rescue co-chair,
I wrote a regular column for the club's official quarterly publication,
"The Rescue Blotter", focusing on the club's rescue efforts.
This was the first time a regular column providing
detailed evidence of the club's involvement in
breed rescue had been published in that venue.

8/01-1/06  FRENCH BULLDOG RESCUE NETWORK PUBLICATIONS
As founder and director of the national French Bulldog rescue organization, the
French Bulldog Rescue Network (FBRN), I designed, implemented, and
maintained a very popular website for FBRN.

I have also published a regular column "FBRN Online" in the
Frogdogs Online monthly e-zine published on the Internet.

I've written two feature articles concerning the FBRN organization,
one for the French Bulldog International Annual, an annual breed publication, and
another for Offlead, a national training and behavior bimonthly
magazine, published in the July/August 2002 issue.

7/02-9/05  JUST FRENCHIES
I've written for the national quarterly magazine,
JUST Frenchies, where I just finished a stint as Companion Dog Editor,
focusing on the role of French Bulldogs as companions,
addressing training issues, noting accomplishments in the
competition obedience arena, and sharing stories of rescue dogs.

1/03-1/04 FRENCH BULLDOGZ DOT ORG!
I published my first e-book online, in collaboration with
illustrator Linda McKee, called Bad Dog Joe! the story of a rotten little
French Bulldog pup - this book can be viewed on  FRENCH BULLDOGZ.

3/07 -2/11  FRENCH BULLDOG VILLAGE PUBLICATIONS
As co-founder and director of yet another national French Bulldog rescue
organization, the French Bulldog Village (FBVillage), I wrote for, and edited, the
website for FBVillage.

10/11 - 6/13  PRESENT  FRENCH BULLDOG LAST CHANCE RESCUE PUBLICATIONS
As co-founder, president, and director of a third national French Bulldog rescue
organization, the French Bulldog Last Chance Rescue (FBLCR), I wrote for, and edited,
the website for FBLCR.

I have freelanced for various other publications, including Good Dog! in 1993 and
Catsumer's Report in 1996, both national publications.
